Latex Inspiration

One of the materials proposed for the sculpture for the British Land is latex.
During my research on this material, I've found an artist, who creates sculptures out of latex balloons. His name is Jason Hackenwerth.

I think that in his work this simple material brings up an extraordinary visual experience: the colour, the light passing through, the mixture of the smaller parts joined together to form the whole sculpture. At the same time they feel like if they were soft for touch and curved naturally. The important notion in this process for me is that the artist works with the material with his own hands and almost as if he was doing it unconsciously, so by this the object is shaped by the experience of body and not only the eye.

I believe that loosing the intellectual control on the project at some stages can benefit for the work, as this approach gives a chance for our natural sensitivity and experience, which is contained in our unconscious, to express itself. This can bring the work to the universal level of understanding.
